What happens when a question leaves my phone?
Most never do. Your phone answers from your own files. When a question needs a bigger model, the app sends only what that moment needs and shows you what went. In Mockingbird, health questions travel over a lane covered by a Business Associate Agreement and are never kept or used for training. Everyday questions go to NEAR AI Cloud over TLS. Sensitive ones, and Lupo's “I'm stuck” ideas, run inside a NEAR hardware enclave: a sealed part of the processor that NEAR can't look into.
How can I check that for myself?
Every request is listed in plain words on your phone: in Mockingbird under each answer and in the Privacy tab, in Lupo under “What left this phone”. For enclave requests, both apps check the enclave's attestation report before sending: that it is fresh, that it is for this model, and that it carries Intel's signed evidence. Full on-device verification of that report is in progress, and we'll say so here when it ships.
Do I need a NEAR account?
No. NEAR AI is the company that runs our private cloud models. You never touch a blockchain or a wallet, and you never see a NEAR login.
Why not use one of the big AI providers?
A standard AI service reads your question in plain text on its own servers, and its privacy promises live in a policy it can rewrite. Your family's health history shouldn't depend on someone else's policy. Private inference lets the hardware prove what happened to your request, so you don't have to take anyone's word for it.
Do I have to make an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no login. Your data lives on your device, so we have nothing to attach an account to.
Who makes MicrowaveOS?
MicrowaveOS is Joe Spano, a software developer with fifteen years of shipping apps and a background in behavioral science. The flock in the footer is the mascots.
Is Mockingbird a doctor?
No. Mockingbird never diagnoses. It answers questions about what your records say and keeps a list of things to ask at the next visit. Decisions about your care belong to you and your doctor.
Can I keep records for my whole family?
Yes. Add records for your parents or your kids, then ask about any of them by name, like “What did Dr. Patel change at Dad's last visit?” Everything stays on the phone that holds it.
Does HIPAA cover Mockingbird?
HIPAA governs health care providers and insurers, and it generally doesn't reach an app you choose to use on your own. Mockingbird protects your records with its architecture instead. They stay on your device, so we never hold them in the first place.
Is Lupo therapy?
No. Lupo is a practice tool built on ideas from cognitive behavioral therapy. It can't diagnose or treat anything. If you're seeing a therapist, it's a good way to practice between sessions.
What if I'm in crisis?
If something you say sounds like you might be in danger, Lupo stops and shows crisis lines before anything else: call or text 988 in the US, 911 for emergencies, and findahelpline.com elsewhere.
What leaves my phone?
Your voice never does, and neither does your journal. If you tap “I'm stuck” with private ideas switched on, the thought's text goes to a private, secure model in a NEAR AI hardware enclave for suggestions, and that request is listed in “What left this phone”. Switch it off and Lupo uses Apple's on-device model instead.
